Is Dumpster Diving Legal in North Carolina

There is technically no law against dumpster diving, but the police may stop you if you are on private property

Slow Consumerism Concentration

My individually designed course of study has integrated material from the departments of Industrial Design, Apparel and Textiles, Dance, Religion, and Watauga Global Community with a minor in Sustainable Development. Through the framework of thought of the Slow Food movement, which seeks to reconnect the food system with the ecological well-being of the planet, my interdisciplinary study of Slow Consumerism has widened this concept to multiple aspects of human consumption beyond food. Slow Consumerism seeks to reconnect with the material culture that we consume to become “prosumers”, seeking connection to the production of what we consume. Resting on the intuition that overconsumption is likely linked to the alienation from the processes involved in the production of what we consume, the sensual reconnection to the production of the material world is sustainable praxis. The disconnection from the food and products that we consume makes us passive recipients and uninvolved in our own well-being. Through multiple disciplines I have studied non-western conceptions of the body and health to explore multiple knowledges of well-being. I have also sought to examine the interconnection of human well-being and ecological well-being, with the logic that the way we treat our body-minds, effects the way we treat other humans, animals and the planet.
